The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization said on Monday that if the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz continues, it could trigger a global agricultural food disaster, leading to interruptions in fertilizer and energy exports, pushing up food prices, and reducing crop yields. FAO Chief Economist Maximo Torero said that the poorest countries are most affected because the planting schedule determines the delay in the supply of key inputs, and once delayed, it could quickly lead to decreased production, worsened inflation, and slowed global economic growth.
