On the 13th, the German ruling coalition announced that it has agreed to exempt consumers and businesses from a total of 1.6 billion euros in energy taxes to cope with the rise in energy prices caused by the turmoil in the Middle East. The ruling coalition composed of the German CDU/CSU and SPD parties said in a joint statement that for the next two months, the energy tax on diesel and gasoline will be reduced by 0.17 euros per liter. German Chancellor Merkel said at a press conference on the same day: "The war is the real cause of the problems our country is currently facing."
