The first 1,000-megawatt pumped storage power station in Cambodia, invested by China, has started construction.
The Upper Stung Ta Dai Hydropower Project in Cambodia, developed and invested by Chinese companies, held its groundbreaking ceremony in Koh Kong Province, Cambodia, on the 10th. Cambodian Minister of Mines and Energy, Suy Sem, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, Wang Wentian and other officials attended the ceremony. The project, jointly invested and developed by China Heavy Machinery Corporation, China National Machinery Industry Corporation, and China Southern Power Grid Lancang-Mekong International Energy Co., Ltd., is a key project on the list of key cooperation projects between China and Cambodia. It is also Cambodia's first 1000-megawatt pumped-storage hydropower station. Suy Sem stated in his speech that with the rapid economic growth of Cambodia, the demand for electricity continues to rise. Once completed, the project will effectively stabilize the supply and fluctuations of new energy sources such as photovoltaic and wind power, significantly improve the stability of Cambodia's national grid, and provide solid guarantee for achieving energy independence and green development.
