The presidential election in Djibouti began on the 10th with two candidates, including the incumbent president, participating in the race. Voting started at 6am local time, and reporters saw voters heading to polling stations in the capital city of Djibouti. The voting is expected to finish at 6pm on the same day. Incumbent president Guelleh, a candidate for the Union for a Progressive People, and Mohamed Farah Samatar, a candidate for the Democratic Alliance, are competing for the presidency. Approximately 250,000 registered voters are expected to participate in this election, and preliminary results are set to be announced on the night of the 10th or on the 11th. According to the country's constitution, the president serves a 5-year term. Djibouti is located on the western coast of the Gulf of Aden in northeastern Africa and has a population of approximately 1.15 million.
