On Thursday, the next-day electricity price in the Kansai region of Japan soared to 23.06 yen per kilowatt-hour, reaching its highest level in more than a year. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency's forecast, many parts of the country, including western Japan, will experience cloudy or rainy weather on Friday. This may suppress solar power generation and create upward pressure on spot electricity prices. Kansai Electric Power Company has also scheduled the shutdown of the Takahama No. 3 nuclear reactor this week for maintenance, reducing the power supply to the grid and further increasing spot market electricity prices.
