Russian diplomat: Western talks on the Middle East situation are only for "saving face"
The G7 and the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf are scheduled to hold a meeting next week to discuss the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. The Russian news agency quoted Russian diplomat Marat Belyat as saying on the 5th that Western countries were creating "artificial chaos" in the Middle East and now were "desperately" looking for a way out. The G7 and the Cooperation Council are meeting, only to "save face." Pascal Confavre, the spokesperson for the French Foreign Ministry, announced the meeting arrangement on the 2nd. Belyat, who is in charge of G20 and APEC affairs at the Russian Foreign Ministry, commented on this: "Obviously, they are trying to reach a consensus with the Gulf countries, but so far I have not seen any serious proposals in this regard. In my opinion, we are witnessing a situation where both the G7 and Western countries want to save face in international relations."
