ECB Executive Board member Sleijpen: The European Central Bank will discuss raising interest rates or maintaining them unchanged.
Olaf Storbeck, a member of the European Central Bank's Governing Council, stated that the next policy discussion at the central bank will focus on either raising interest rates or keeping rates unchanged. Storbeck said, "In a few weeks, we will meet in Frankfurt with the Executive Board to discuss and determine our next actions." When asked about the trend in borrowing costs, he mentioned that rates will either remain unchanged or be raised, emphasizing that this is the focus of the discussion. Storbeck also mentioned, "During the last Fed interest rate decision, Powell was also asked about various economic outlooks and he admitted 'to be honest, I don't know' I think this statement applies to us as well. Nevertheless, we still need to make decisions. We will base our judgment on the data available at the time of the decision-making. Compared to the present, we will have more information at that time, which is crucial. Additionally, there will be communication and deliberation: exchanging opinions with colleagues and having thorough discussions can lead to better decision-making, highlighting the value of consultations."
