Japanese media: Kaohsiung City Government has confirmed the relaxation of weapons export plan and plans to revise related restrictions within the month.
According to a report by Kyodo News Agency on the evening of the 3rd, the government led by Sanae Takaichi is brewing a plan to relax Japan's rules on weapon exports, and the overall content of the plan has been clarified. The Takaichi government plans to amend the "Three Principles on Transfer of Defense Equipment" and its application guidelines within this month. The report, citing multiple informed sources, said that the plan mainly includes: lifting restrictions on the export of 5 types of defense equipment intended for non-combat purposes only, allowing exports of finished products including lethal weapons in principle; establishing exceptions for exports to countries in conflict and leaving a certain amount of export space; the involvement of the Japanese parliament, previously seen as a "brake measure" on weapon exports, will now be limited to "notification" after the fact. The report stated that the ruling coalition of the Liberal Democratic Party and Japan Innovation Party had previously suggested only amending the guidelines for the application of the "Three Principles on Transfer of Defense Equipment", but the Takaichi government plans to amend the principles themselves as well. In order to strengthen the coordination of weapon exports, the Takaichi government also plans to establish a coordination mechanism composed of personnel from the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and other relevant departments.
