Trump plans to allocate $152 million to reopen the "Devil's Island" prison.
On April 3 local time, the central government reporter learned that United States President Trump has proposed a budget of 152 million dollars in his 2027 fiscal year budget proposal to renovate Alcatraz Island prison in San Francisco Bay, California into a modern high-security level prison. The U.S. Department of Justice budget document states that the project aims to "rebuild Devil's Island as the most advanced security prison facility," and the related funds will be used for the construction costs in the first year of the project. The proposal must be approved by Congress through the appropriation law before it can be implemented. Trump had previously stated on social media in May 2025 that he had instructed the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Department of Homeland Security to promote the reconstruction and expansion of the "Devil's Island" prison to detain "the most dangerous and violent criminals in America."
