Germany's new oil price control regulations are being questioned, and are said to be of no use in reducing oil prices.
The Association of Consumer Organizations in Germany stated on the 2nd that the new fuel price control regulations officially implemented the day before cannot truly reduce fuel prices. According to the new regulations, gas stations can only increase prices once a day at noon, while there are no restrictions on when prices can be decreased. Quoting the words of the association's president, Ramona Pop, the Deutsche Presse Agentur reported that under the new regulations, fuel prices soar at noon and then drop later in the evening or the next morning. Consumers can choose to refuel near noon when prices are relatively lower, saving costs, but this time period is not convenient for working people. Pop said, "At present, it appears that the new regulations actually do not reduce refueling costs." She also called on the government to quickly reassess the new regulations, including adjusting the timing for gas stations to change prices.
