The Cuban government announces pardon for over 2000 prisoners.
On April 2nd local time, the Cuban government announced the pardon of 2010 prisoners. Cuba emphasized that this decision was based on humanitarian considerations and sovereignty, taking into account factors such as the nature of the prisoners' crimes, their behavior in prison, time already served, and their health conditions. This is a common practice in the Cuban justice system. The released individuals include young people, elderly individuals over 60 years old, those who were close to meeting release conditions, as well as foreign nationals and Cuban citizens living abroad. This is the second prisoner release in Cuba in 2026, and the fifth pardon action since 2011, with a total of over 11,000 people being pardoned.
