The United Arab Emirates has called on the United Nations to authorize a series of measures, including the use of force, to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. In a letter dated Tuesday addressed to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the President of the Security Council, UAE Ambassador to the United Nations Mohamed Abushahab requested the Security Council to "take immediate action" to "ensure the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz and its surrounding waters, as well as the right of navigation and freedom of navigation".
