The State Administration of Cultural Heritage has deployed to advance a special action on the safe management of cultural relics in the collections of state-owned museums nationwide.
Recently, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage issued a notice and held a teleconference to deploy and promote a special action plan for the safe management of cultural relics in national museums nationwide, conducting a comprehensive inventory and safety hazard investigation and rectification of state-owned museum collections. This special action is a key task in the cultural relics field, laying a foundation for long-term benefits. Through a one-year concentrated action, national museums will organize a thorough inventory of their collections, verify the accuracy of the records, promote the normalization and standardization of inventory mechanisms for museum collections, and simultaneously launch the pilot work for the second national movable cultural relics census; focusing on investigating and rectifying safety hazards in museum collections, further strengthening preventive measures, enhancing safety management and emergency response capabilities, and ensuring the safety of museum collections. The State Administration of Cultural Heritage requires all regions and museums to establish and implement a correct performance evaluation concept, take this special action as an opportunity to improve the system of museum collection management, solidify the safety defense line of museum collections with solid work results, and promote the overall improvement of the level of museum collection safety management. The State Administration of Cultural Heritage will coordinate and deepen the work of museum collection safety management. The National Museum Work Conference held in December 2025 emphasized that collection management should always be placed in the primary position of museum work, systematically carry out collection, protection, research, and interpretation, and relevant work deployment and key tasks will be incorporated into the "15th Five-Year Plan" for the development of cultural relics. Subsequently, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage carried out in-depth verification and disposal of museum collection management issues related to public opinion, issued the "Notice on Strengthening Museum Safety Work" and "Notice on Further Standardizing the Management of State-owned Museums' Acceptance of Donated Collections," and urged and guided cultural relics administrative departments and museums at all levels to strengthen the basic work of collection management, standardize collection grading, listing, documentation, and inbound and outbound processes; strictly follow the procedures for receiving donated collections, and earnestly fulfill the responsibility of protecting and utilizing donated collections.
