Some reporters raised questions about the statements made by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities regarding the "Hongtai 58" incident. Spokesperson Zhang Han said that, following investigations by the public security organs, Taiwan residents Jian Wensheng and Chen Shunjing have been controlling the "Hongtai 58" and other vessels for a long time, smuggling drugs to the mainland. In December 2025, the public security organs issued a wanted notice for these two individuals, hoping for active cooperation from compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait in providing information on their criminal activities. The DPP authorities have ignored the facts of the case, sheltered and condoned smuggling crimes, and slandered the "Hongtai 58" manipulated by a Taiwan smuggling ring as having connections to the mainland, engaging in political manipulation and employing despicable means. Such actions will surely face the joint opposition of compatriots on both sides of the strait.
