Australia is preparing to sue social media platforms that violate the youth ban.
Sina Finance reported on March 31st that Australia threatened to sue social media giants on Tuesday for allegedly violating a ban on targeting minors under the age of 16. The Australian internet regulatory agency revealed that they were investigating some of the largest platforms for allegedly not complying with this globally pioneering measure. Three months after the ban took effect, the eSafety Commissioner said they were investigating potential illegal activities on Meta's Instagram and Facebook, Google's YouTube, Snapchat, and others. Communications Minister Anika Wells stated that the government is gathering evidence "so that the eSafety Commissioner can bring a lawsuit to the Federal Court and succeed." Wells told reporters in Canberra, "We have spent a summer collecting evidence, and these pieces of evidence are all about how children bypass the law, undoubtedly, you have all heard these stories..."
