Media: US unfreezes majority of immigrant asylum cases.
According to CBS, citing two Department of Homeland Security officials, the Trump administration has decided to unfreeze most asylum application cases. However, asylum processing will continue to be frozen if immigrants come from the 39 countries facing comprehensive or partial entry restrictions according to the travel ban proclamation. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has "lifted the pause on approving asylum seekers from non-high-risk countries who have undergone thorough vetting." "This will allow resources to be focused on continuing to conduct rigorous national security and public safety reviews on high-risk cases," the Department of Homeland Security stated.
