The Constitutional Court of the Congo confirmed Sassou's re-election as president.
The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Congo ruled on March 28th that the results of the recent presidential election are valid, confirming the victory of the candidate from the ruling party, the Congolese Labour Party, and current president Denis Sassou Nguesso, who was re-elected for another term. The Constitutional Court announced that Sassou Nguesso was the leading candidate in the presidential election held on March 15th, securing his re-election as President of the Republic of Congo. Sassou Nguesso was first elected president in 1979 and has been re-elected multiple times since. According to the country's constitution, the president of the Republic of Congo serves a 5-year term. The presidential election follows a two-round voting system, where a candidate can be elected in the first round if they receive over half of the votes; if no candidate receives a majority in the first round, the top two candidates move on to a second round of voting.
