The Federal Aviation Administration of the United States stated on the 26th that they are conducting an investigation into an incident this week in which a US military "Black Hawk" helicopter nearly collided with a Boeing passenger plane in the airspace of California. According to media reports, United Airlines flight 589 was preparing to land at John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California on the evening of the 24th local time around 8:40 PM when a "Black Hawk" helicopter crossed directly in front of its flight path. When the flight received the alert, the two aircraft were only a few hundred feet apart. The Boeing 737-800 passenger plane was forced to level off to deal with the danger, with 162 passengers and 6 crew members on board at the time. The California National Guard said in a statement that the helicopter belonged to the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base and was conducting a "routine training mission" at the time of the incident. The US Army issued a statement saying they have taken note of the incident involving the California National Guard's "Black Hawk" helicopter and are coordinating with the Federal Aviation Administration to obtain more details.
