This move by the U.S. has sparked some controversy on social media. CNBC reported that earlier this month, Bergham visited Venezuela with executives from oil and mining companies and met with the country's acting president Delcy Rodriguez. According to Reuters, Bergham's trip focused on the mining sector. The day after Bergham ended his visit to Venezuela, the U.S. issued a permit allowing specific transactions related to gold originating from Venezuela.
