Singapore delays imposition of world's first sustainable aviation fuel tax due to Iran conflict.
Singapore has announced a delay in the imposition of a sustainable aviation fuel surcharge on airline passengers scheduled for next month, citing a sharp increase in fuel costs due to the Iran-related conflict. The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore said on Wednesday that due to the "impact of ongoing conflicts in the Middle East on airlines and passengers," the additional fee will be postponed until October 1. The charges will be based on cabin class or flight distance, with passengers paying a maximum of 41.60 Singapore dollars. The authority confirmed last year that flights to Southeast Asia will incur an additional 1 Singapore dollar, while flights to the Americas will incur an additional 10.40 Singapore dollars.
