A survey released on Thursday showed that due to the impact of the Middle East conflict pushing up inflation and the resulting risks, British households' expectations for their financial situation and the overall economic situation have fallen to the lowest level in at least two years. The British Retail Consortium stated that the index of consumers' expectations for the economic trend in the next three months dropped significantly from -30 in February to -53 in March; while the assessment index of personal financial prospects decreased from -6 to -17, both indicators reached their lowest levels since the survey began in March 2024. Helen Dickinson, CEO of the British Retail Consortium, said: "As the Middle East conflict has intensified the possibility of higher inflation in the coming months, consumer confidence has collapsed. The decline in confidence is most significant among the baby boomer generation, this group has the highest reliance on investments and pension funds."
