On March 21st, the criminal suspect Xie, also known as "Aunt Mei", was arrested. The mysterious code name that once stirred countless families of abducted children, and was once thought to possibly not exist, finally came to light. Over the years, there have been various speculations about Aunt Mei - some say she is real, while others say she may not exist. From September 2003 to December 2005, several children were abducted in Zengcheng, Guangzhou, and Boluo, Huizhou. The police received reports from the victims after the incidents. Following the case, the Ministry of Public Security and the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department designated this as a priority case and set up a joint task force with provincial, city, and district-level public security agencies to investigate. In 2016, Zhang Weiping and 5 other criminals were captured. It was Zhang Weiping's confession that brought the name "Aunt Mei" into the public eye for the first time. In 2023, the ringleader Zhang Weiping and others were executed according to law, but the police never gave up on the pursuit of "Aunt Mei". Police officers knew that without capturing Aunt Mei and bringing her to justice, the case would always remain unresolved, and the families of the abducted children would find it difficult to move on from the shadow. Journalists learned that since the case began, the task force has undergone multiple personnel changes, but the hunt for Aunt Mei has never stopped. After more than 20 years of uncertainty, this code name has touched countless hearts. From the first abduction case in 2003 to the capture of the ringleader Zhang Weiping, Aunt Mei has always been like a cloud of mist hanging over the case. Some say she does not exist at all, that she is just a lie fabricated by Zhang Weiping; others say she has long fled abroad and is difficult to trace. But the police never gave up. Alongside the pursuit of Aunt Mei, the task force also had the important mission of reuniting the abducted children with their families. Over the years, the task force's footsteps have covered the entire country. They released simulated images of Aunt Mei to the public, widely soliciting clues, carefully verifying each one, and not missing any possibilities. It was with this determination of "not giving up until the truth is found, not stopping until it's verified" that the task force finally found the crucial target in the sea of people. Last year, under the guidance of the Ministry of Public Security and with the support of public security agencies from other provinces, the task force found a woman named Xie who closely matched the characteristics of Aunt Mei. After further verification by the task force, it was confirmed that Xie was indeed Aunt Mei. Xie was arrested and interrogated, and she truthfully confessed to her illegal activities. The case is still under investigation.
