Construction of the affordable housing project in the Maldives undertaken by a Chinese company has started.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the affordable housing project in the Maldives built by Chinese companies was held in Hulhumal on the evening of the 21st. Maldivian President Muiz, several cabinet ministers, members of parliament, and Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Kong Xianhua, attended the ceremony. President Muiz expressed his gratitude to China for its valuable support in improving the livelihoods of the Maldivian people and looks forward to deepening cooperation to promote more projects for the benefit of the people. Minister of Housing, Construction and Infrastructure of the Maldives, Mu'ttali'b, said in his speech at the ceremony that the affordable housing project, which is now underway, is an important part of the Maldives' efforts to address housing issues, and that Chinese companies have become important partners in the government's efforts to improve the livelihoods of the people. The project, with 1,224 housing units, is being constructed by China Machinery Engineering Corporation and is located in Hulhumal. As an artificial island created through land reclamation, Hulhumal plays a crucial role in alleviating the problem of overcrowding and housing shortages in the Maldives capital, Mal.
