On March 20, 2026, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office, had a phone call with the French President's Foreign Affairs Advisor, Bonnet, to discuss the situation in the Middle East. Wang Yi explained China's position, stating that the current situation in the Middle East is still deteriorating, with conflicts spreading and escalating, not only impacting global energy supply stability but also causing a significant humanitarian crisis. The use of force cannot solve the problem, and unjust wars should not continue. In the face of the current critical situation, as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, China and France should strengthen strategic communication and coordination, firmly uphold the United Nations Charter and international law, and prevent the world from reverting to the "law of the jungle." The immediate priorities are to curb the spread of conflict and prevent other countries from becoming further involved, to urge for an immediate ceasefire and cessation of hostilities from the international community, and to urge the United Nations and the Security Council to play their rightful role in promoting the early restoration of regional peace and stability. Despite facing difficulties, the correct way out of the crisis is through dialogue and negotiation, and China and France should make joint efforts in this regard.
