WTO: The overall negative impact of tariffs on trade in 2025 is smaller than expected.
On the 19th, the World Trade Organization stated in its latest "Global Trade Outlook and Statistics" report that the overall negative impact of tariffs on trade by 2025 is less than previously expected. Looking ahead to 2026, the WTO believes that recent dynamics in tariffs mainly reflect adjustments at the strategic level, rather than fundamental changes at the policy level. WTO economists estimate that by the end of February this year, the share of global trade conducted on the basis of the "most favored nation treatment" principle has risen to 72%.
