The median forecast in the Federal Reserve's dot plot receives much attention, Powell's tone is seen as a market-driving factor.
Phil Neuhart, Market and Economic Research Director at First Citizens Bank, said before the Federal Reserve announced its rate decision on Wednesday that investors and markets will be particularly focused on the dot plot of median federal funds rates for the end of 2026. He said, "This is a tough decision, but we believe the median will continue to forecast only one rate cut for the remainder of this year." Neuhart stated that in addition to the projections of the Federal Open Market Committee, the tone of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell's press conference will be a key market-driving variable, especially how he addresses the tension between recent oil price spikes and weakening labor market data.
