On March 17, 2026, local time, the 17th meeting of the China-Vietnam Bilateral Cooperation Steering Committee was held in Hanoi. Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh co-chaired the meeting. Representatives from various ministries and provincial leaders from both sides participated both online and offline. Wang Yi stated that last April, General Secretary Xi Jinping, President of China, successfully visited Vietnam, and this year, after the Communist Party of Vietnam's 14th National Congress, he had a phone call with General Secretary Su Lin, outlining the blueprint for the development of socialism and China-Vietnam relations in the new era. The efficient coordination between various departments and regions of the two countries, the comprehensive upgrade of cooperation, and the construction of a stronger, higher-quality and more dynamic China-Vietnam community of common destiny. Pham Binh Minh congratulated China on its tremendous achievements in economic and social development, stating that under the personal guidance of the top leaders of both parties and countries, the momentum of development in China-Vietnam relations has been strong, yielding fruitful results. High-level communication between the two sides is frequent, political mutual trust continues to consolidate, practical cooperation is deepening, and people-to-people and local exchanges are increasingly active, bringing tangible benefits to the people of both countries. Vietnam has consistently viewed China as a top priority and strategic choice in its foreign policy, firmly adheres to the One China policy, and opposes any form of "Taiwan independence" activities. The Vietnamese side supports the next steps proposed by the Chinese side and is willing to adhere to the positioning of a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China, further consolidate strategic mutual trust, prepare for high-level exchanges, enhance party-to-party and parliamentary exchanges, deepen defense and security cooperation, promote mutually beneficial cooperation in economy, trade, agriculture, finance, green energy, and humanistic education, closely coordinate multilateral cooperation, properly manage differences, and promote deeper and more substantial development of Vietnam-China relations.
