People's Bank of China Shanghai Head Office: As of the end of February, foreign institutions held 3.32 trillion yuan worth of bonds in the interbank market.
On March 16, the Shanghai headquarters of the People's Bank of China released the "Brief Report on the Interbank Bond Market for Overseas Institutions in February 2026", which showed that as of the end of February 2026, overseas institutions held 3.32 trillion yuan worth of bonds in the interbank market, accounting for approximately 1.9% of the total custodial volume in the interbank bond market. By type of bond, overseas institutions held 2.00 trillion yuan in government bonds, accounting for 60.2%, 0.78 trillion yuan in policy financial bonds, accounting for 23.5%, 0.40 trillion yuan in interbank certificates of deposit, accounting for 12.0%, and 0.14 trillion yuan in other types of bonds, accounting for 4.2%.
