Brazil's Minister of Labor and Employment, Lus Marinho, recently stated that if Congress pushes forward with a reform proposal to shorten the weekly work hours, the government will not provide financial compensation to businesses. Marinho said during a meeting with service industry representatives in So Paulo, "Regarding work hours, I believe that any form of economic compensation is inappropriate." Currently, the Brazilian Congress is considering a constitutional amendment that proposes to reduce the maximum weekly work hours from 44 to 36, eliminate the "6x1" work system, while keeping wage levels unchanged.
