In the spring of 2026, Shanghai Airport set a new record for the highest number of flights and passenger traffic during the Spring Festival travel season. The passenger traffic at Pudong Airport exceeded 10 million people for the first time.
According to the Shanghai Airport Group, the 40-day Spring Festival travel rush came to a successful conclusion on March 13. According to the data from the Express, since the start of the Spring Festival on February 2, the two major airports in Shanghai, Pudong and Hongqiao, have jointly ensured the takeoff and landing of 96,000 flights, an increase of 2.3% compared to last year's Spring Festival. Among them, Pudong Airport handled 64,000 flights and Hongqiao Airport handled 32,000 flights, with a daily average of 2,407 flights at the two airports. They served 15.738 million passengers flying in and out, a 5% increase compared to last year's Spring Festival, including 10.099 million passengers at Pudong Airport and 5.639 million passengers at Hongqiao Airport, with a daily average of 394,000 passengers at the two airports. The flight volume and passenger traffic at Shanghai Airport both set new records for the Spring Festival. From February 20 (the fourth day of the lunar new year) to February 22 (the sixth day of the lunar new year), the daily passenger traffic at Shanghai Airport was 425,000, 431,000, and 438,000 respectively, setting historical records for three consecutive days. Pudong Airport handled over 10 million passengers during the Spring Festival for the first time, with 4.38 million inbound and outbound passengers, a 6.5% increase compared to last year's Spring Festival.
