According to reports by South Korea's Chosun Ilbo, the South Korean government believes that the excess tax revenue from the chip boom is expected to support an additional budget of up to 20 trillion Korean won, far exceeding the initial expectations of about 10 trillion Korean won. The report cited an unnamed government official as saying that both Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are expected to achieve operating profits of around 100 trillion Korean won this year. If this target is met, it is not impossible for South Korea to introduce a supplementary budget of 20 trillion Korean won without issuing government bonds.
