Chilean President-elect Kast takes office

On March 11th local time, Jose Antonio Kast, the newly elected President of Chile, was sworn in at the Chilean Congress for a term of four years until 2030. Kast, who is 60 years old, founded the far-right political party Republican Party of Chile in 2019. In the second round of the Chilean presidential election held in mid-December last year, he defeated leftist ruling coalition candidate Xanette Hara and was elected the new president.
