According to reports, US regulatory agencies are considering proposing a package of new capital requirements aimed at encouraging some Wall Street banks and mid-sized competitors to expand their credit lending. Sources said officials from the Federal Reserve, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency could announce the proposal as early as next week, which will include three key measures related to capital. One of the plans is a revision of the major US bank capital proposal "Basel III". Federal Reserve Vice Chair for Supervision, Michelle Bowman, said last month that the revised version would be released by the end of March. Sources said another measure will allow mid-sized banks to use standardized methods when calculating capital levels, in response to concerns from smaller institutions that using the more complex methods used by Wall Street banks would result in higher calculation costs.
