According to the latest forecast from Omdia, global shipments of desktops, laptops, and workstations are expected to decline by 12% to 245 million units in 2026. This forecast is based on the sharp increase in prices of memory and storage especially with an expected increase of at least 60% in the first quarter of 2026. It is expected that the remaining quarters of the year will continue to face further price pressures, although subsequent increases may be more moderate. Since the first quarter of 2025, the cost of mainstream memory and storage configurations has risen by $90 to $165, causing significant financial pressure on PC manufacturers and forcing them to reduce promotions, increase product prices, and adjust configurations. The impact on various PC products is expected to be generally consistent. Shipments of desktops are expected to decline by 10% to 53.2 million units, while shipments of laptops are expected to decline by 12% to 192.2 million units.
