Google, Tesla, and other companies are pushing to use idle grid capacity to lower electricity prices.
According to a report from the AXIOS website, a new alliance consisting of companies including Google and Tesla will solve the energy burden issue by utilizing the underutilized capacity in the power grid. With rising electricity prices driven by artificial intelligence data centers and other demands, the electricity burden has become a core issue. The alliance, named Utilize, plans to work with state legislators, regulatory agencies, and utility companies to improve the operation of the power grid to address the electricity burden issue while also considering supply reliability and construction speed. Alliance officials stated that they plan to soon release a study by the Brattle Group, showing that American consumers could potentially save up to $180 billion over the next decade through system improvements. Members of Utilize also include air conditioning giant Carrier, deployment services company Sparkfund, power panel company SPAN, and data center developer Verrus.
