Wang Yi: China and the United States should maintain an attitude of mutual respect, uphold the bottom line of peaceful coexistence, and strive for a win-win prospect of cooperation.
Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi talked about Sino-US relations at the press conference of the two sessions on the 8th.
Wang Yi said that Sino-US relations affect all parties and have a global impact. Not engaging with each other will only lead to misunderstandings and miscalculations, and moving towards confrontation will harm the world. China and the United States are both major powers, and they cannot change each other, but they can change the way they interact. That is to hold an attitude of mutual respect, maintain the bottom line of peaceful coexistence, and strive for a win-win prospect for cooperation. This is in line with the interests of the two peoples and the expectations of the international community.
Wang Yi said that it is gratifying that the leaders of the two countries have personally maintained good communication at the highest level, providing important strategic guarantees for the improvement and development of Sino-US relations, and promoting overall stability in the face of ups and downs. This year is a "big year" for Sino-US relations, and the agenda for high-level exchanges is already on our table. What is needed now is for both sides to make careful preparations, create a conducive environment, manage existing differences, and eliminate unnecessary disruptions. China's attitude has always been positive and open, and the key is for the US to reciprocate. I believe that as long as both sides treat each other with sincerity and trust, we can continually expand the list of cooperation and shorten the list of issues, achieve satisfactory results for both peoples under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, reach a consensus welcomed by the international community, and make 2026 a landmark year for the healthy, stable, and sustainable development of Sino-US relations.
