The two sessions of the National People's Congress are currently under the spotlight. On the morning of March 5th, the first session of the "representative channel" of the Fourth Session of the Fourteenth National People's Congress was held. Dong Jin, a national People's Congress representative from the Beijing delegation and the director of the Beijing Weixin Blockchain and Edge Computing Research Institute, introduced that with the expansion of applications, China has formed a national-level blockchain network. "The purpose of this network is to entwine the high-value core data of our country's cross-border trade, global payments, and other fields in our independent blockchain system." Blockchain technology is an advanced type of information technology. Among the three elements of algorithm, computing power, and data in artificial intelligence, blockchain can ensure the authenticity, trustworthiness, and traceability of data. In the process of digital economy development, blockchain is one of the most critical digital infrastructure. Dong Jin explained that before 2019, blockchain applications in China started to become popular, involving areas related to governance, livelihood, energy, and trade. At that time, the majority of applications were based on foreign underlying technologies, and China did not have its own underlying core technology for blockchain. At the end of 2019, Beijing took the initiative to undertake a strategic task for the country, swiftly gathering hundreds of top scientists in the global blockchain field. "We established the Weixin Research Institute. Our institute operates like an army group, focusing on solving the underlying core technology issues in the field of blockchain in our country." Through unremitting efforts, Dong Jin and his team developed the world's first integrated blockchain underlying operating system, with 3 million lines of source code all open source and available for free use by society, greatly enhancing the social value of the technology. At the same time, they developed the world's first 96-core blockchain-specific acceleration chip, increasing the performance of blockchain by 50 times. "More importantly, this technology successfully overcame the computing power bottleneck faced by super-large-scale blockchain networks, allowing our country's trustworthy digital infrastructure to have 'Chinese core'!" He stated that through independent innovation, China has overcome a series of underlying core technologies in the blockchain field, serving a number of major national digital engineering projects, building a "trusted digital Great Wall" that connects the entire country and the world, and has delivered a solid report card.
