South African President calls for strengthening energy security in Africa
South African President Ramaphosa called for the promotion of African energy integration and diversification on the 4th, to enhance energy security in Africa and cope with the turbulence of the global energy market. Ramaphosa said during his keynote speech at the 2026 African Energy Conference held in Cape Town that the current geopolitical tensions have escalated, putting pressure on the energy supply chain. African countries highly dependent on imported energy face greater risks. He pointed out that the escalation of the situation in the Middle East has had an impact on Africa, leading to supply chain tensions and rising energy prices. "The changing geopolitical landscape highlights the fragility of Africa's import-dependent economies."
