African stock market closing report: South African stock market fell by more than 5.8%, Nigeria's stock index hit a new closing record high.
On Tuesday, the South Africa FTSE/JSE Africa Leading 40 Index fell by 5.85% to below 112,000 points, continuing to trend lower and approaching the February 17 closing level of 111,000 points. The Mauritius Stock Exchange SEMDEX Index dropped by 0.21%, while the Nairobi Stock Exchange All Share Index decreased by 1.18%. The Nigerian Stock Exchange All Share Index rose by 0.57% to above 197,000 points, breaking the closing historical high of 196,000 points set on February 23.
