The escalating situation in the Middle East is having an increasingly significant impact on global shipping, causing uncertainty for some of China's foreign trade enterprises shipping to the Middle East. Currently operating shipping companies have also raised their freight rates. At a foreign trade company in Ningbo, Zhejiang, the company's head stated that a shipment of washing machines destined for the Middle East had been loaded onto trucks in the morning, but due to changes in sailing schedules, the loading was temporarily suspended, and all the containers were eventually unloaded back into the warehouse. According to logistics companies, operations at Jebel Ali Port in Dubai have been suspended, while ports in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia are operating normally; ports in Bahrain are also suspended, and there are restrictions on operations at some ports in Qatar and Oman. Some shipping companies have stopped taking bookings for the Middle East region, while others still operating are imposing emergency conflict surcharges and war risk surcharges. Industry insiders have noted that since the end of 2023, shipping in the Red Sea has been disrupted, with many shipping companies choosing to bypass the Suez Canal and sail around the Cape of Good Hope instead. Recently, several shipping companies have announced the cancellation of plans to return to the Red Sea route, indicating that they will continue to bypass the Suez Canal.
