On March 2, 2026, Deputy Minister of Finance Liao Min of the Ministry of Finance of China held a video call with State Secretary Janett Schwahnberg of the German Ministry of Finance in Beijing, discussing in depth the China-Germany high-level financial dialogue and cooperation between China and Germany in the G20 financial channels. Liao Min stated that the recent successful visit of Prime Minister Merz to China and the meeting between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Merz highlighted the need for China and Germany to be reliable partners who support each other, open and mutually beneficial innovative partners, and humanistic partners who understand and are close to each other, pointing the direction for the development of China-Germany relations.
Premier Li Qiang and Prime Minister Merz held talks and exchanged views on deepening practical cooperation in various fields between the two countries. China is willing to work with Germany to implement important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, strengthen communication and cooperation within the framework of the China-Germany high-level financial dialogue, and promote the healthy and stable development of China-Germany economic relations. China and Germany have global influence and should strengthen coordination through multilateral platforms such as the G20 to address global challenges together, firmly uphold multilateralism and free trade, oppose protectionism, and make greater contributions to world peace and development.
Schwahnberg expressed that Germany values its relationship with China, positively evaluates the outcomes of Prime Minister Merz's visit to China, and is willing to further deepen cooperation with China in the financial and other fields to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. China and Germany have an important responsibility to jointly address global challenges, and both sides maintain good communication and coordination within the G20 framework, and should continue to push for a greater role of the G20 in addressing global challenges. The two sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual concern.
