As the military conflict in Iran escalates, Japanese shipping companies have suspended operations in the Persian Gulf. A spokesperson for Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line) stated that the company has temporarily halted its ships from passing through the Strait of Hormuz. A spokesperson for Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (K Line) said that the company has instructed its ships in the Persian Gulf to remain on standby. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) has ordered its ships to wait in safe waters. Japan relies on the Middle East for around 90% of its crude oil imports.
