The International Atomic Energy Agency issued a statement on the 27th, saying that the fifth partial ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine, mediated by them, came into effect on the same day. The temporary ceasefire is aimed at restoring offsite power supply to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. IAEA Director General Grossi said in the statement that the latest local ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine paves the way for maintenance and strengthening of offsite power supply to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, and helps to "maintain the nuclear safety and security of the plant." The statement mentioned that preparation work, including demining, started on the same day. After one to two days of preparation, technical personnel will conduct assessments and repairs under the supervision of the IAEA. According to media reports, a 330kV backup transmission line at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant was damaged on the 10th due to military activities. According to Russian media, the CEO of the Russian state nuclear energy company, Likhachov, stated on the 27th that a local ceasefire had been achieved in the vicinity of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, and repair personnel are currently repairing the damaged equipment and transmission lines of the nuclear power plant. Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is one of the largest nuclear power plants in Europe. After the Ukrainian crisis escalated in February 2022, Russia took control of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Since then, the nuclear power plant has been shelled or attacked by drones multiple times, raising concerns about its safety in the international community.
