By 2025, the national carbon dioxide emissions per 10,000 yuan of GDP will decrease by 5.0%.
On February 28, the National Bureau of Statistics released the Statistical Bulletin on National Economic and Social Development in 2025, showing that China achieved significant results in energy conservation and carbon reduction in 2025. Preliminary calculations show that the energy consumption per 10,000 yuan of GDP, excluding raw materials and non-fossil energy consumption, decreased by 5.1% compared to the previous year, and the carbon dioxide emissions per 10,000 yuan of GDP decreased by 5.0%. The bulletin also showed that in 2025, China's green and low-carbon transition was prominent. The electricity generation from clean energy sources such as hydropower, nuclear power, wind power, and solar power reached 4.2481 trillion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 14.4% from the previous year. The production of new energy vehicles reached 16.524 million, an increase of 25.1% from the previous year; and the stock of new energy vehicles at the end of the year reached 43.97 million, an increase of 12.57 million from the end of the previous year. Among the 339 prefecture-level and above cities monitored, 72.6% met the air quality standards. Among the 3,641 national surface water assessment sections, the proportion of sections with excellent water quality was 91.4%, Grade IV sections accounted for 6.9%, Grade V sections accounted for 1.1%, and inferior to Grade V sections accounted for 0.6%.
