European natural gas prices are hovering around 30 euros per megawatt-hour, supported by expectations of warmer weather and ample supply of liquefied natural gas. However, analysts say that natural gas storage rates in various parts of the EU are still around 30%, significantly lower than the five-year average of 47%, and are expected to approach or fall below 2022 levels by the end of the heating season. The benchmark Dutch TTF natural gas futures contract fell 1.1% to 30.58 euros per megawatt-hour. Investors are currently closely monitoring negotiations between the US and Iran, as any escalation of tensions could threaten liquefied natural gas supply through the Strait of Hormuz, although analysts believe this scenario is unlikely to occur.
