Senior official of the US Treasury Department to resign, had objected to the plan to crack down on fraud in Minnesota.
According to seven sources familiar with the matter, a senior official at the Trump administration's Treasury Department is preparing to resign after privately raising objections to a plan supported by the White House aimed at combating alleged fraud within the Somali immigrant community in Minnesota. John Hurley, a donor to President Trump and the current Deputy Secretary of the Treasury responsible for terrorism and financial intelligence, has reportedly indicated to those around him in recent weeks that he will be leaving his position. He recently expressed concerns to Treasury Secretary Mnuchin about a plan to enhance federal monitoring of international remittances in the Minneapolis area. The sources requested anonymity to discuss internal deliberations. His resignation highlights discomfort among some allies of Trump within the federal government about the potential large-scale use of law enforcement tools targeting the Somali community in Minneapolis. Two sources indicated that he raised concerns about data privacy regarding the plan.
