In the past five years, national courts have concluded more than 159,000 first-instance trials of telecommunication fraud cases.
The Supreme People's Court held a press conference today to introduce the work of the people's courts in punishing telecommunications and internet fraud and property-related crimes in accordance with the law. From 2021 to 2025, a total of more than 159,000 cases of telecommunications and internet fraud crimes were concluded in first-instance trials by courts nationwide, and more than 338,000 defendants were sentenced. Among them, in 2023, the number of cases concluded and the number of defendants sentenced increased by 48.4% and 38.6% respectively compared to the previous year; in 2024, the numbers increased by 29.4% and 26.7% respectively; in 2025, the numbers increased by 1.2% and 4.5% respectively. The significant decrease in the rate of increase indicates a stage-achieving effect of the judicial authorities' efforts in combating and governing such crimes.
