The British government announced new sanctions on Russia's shadow fleet.
The British Foreign Office issued a statement on Tuesday imposing sanctions on 175 entities in the "2Rivers" network on the fourth anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The action also targets one of the world's largest oil pipeline companies, the Russian oil transport company, which the UK says is responsible for over 80% of Russia's oil export transportation tasks. The British Foreign Secretary stated that the UK is taking decisive action today to cut off key funds, military equipment, and sources of income that support Russian aggression, making it the largest sanctions measure since the early stages of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The "2Rivers" network associated with Azerbaijani traders Itibar Eyub and Taher Garaev continues to transport billions of barrels of Russian crude oil under international sanctions imposed due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The offshore company network, formerly known as "Coral," expanded rapidly before its operations were weakened by EU and UK sanctions in 2024. At that time, Garaev's lawyer denied any connection to Russian oil companies or Eyub, stating that he had not been involved in any oil-related business since the end of 2022.
