According to China Science Daily, a Microsoft research team has used high-energy lasers to engrave encoded data on a piece of 3D borosilicate glass, thereby developing a glass-based data storage technology. A square glass measuring 12 centimeters wide and 2 millimeters thick can store 4.8TB of data, equivalent to the data of approximately 2 million printed books. Tests have shown that at a temperature of 290C, this data can be preserved for 10,000 years, and at room temperature, the preservation time could be tens or even hundreds of times longer. The related research was published on February 18 in the journal Nature.
