The death of "El Mencho" has sparked retaliation from drug cartels, leading to violent riots in various parts of Mexico. Armed conflicts have erupted in the coastal tourist city of Bahia de Banderas in Jalisco, with thick smoke rising in many areas. It is reported that several thousand American tourists are trapped in the area. The US Embassy in Mexico has advised its citizens to take shelter on-site. American and Canadian airlines have cancelled dozens of flights to Mexico.
